"As for me, I will see Your face in righteousness"

Day 124 – Psalm 17

“As for me, I will see Your face in righteousness” Psalm 17:15a

BEYOND THIS EARTHLY LIFE

How did David end his prayer to God? There was such passion in his plea to God to take action against the wicked. We have a very surprising conclusion to this prayer (Psalm 17).

“As for me, I will see Your face in righteousness;
I shall be satisfied when I awake in Your likeness.”
Psalm 17:15

1. A strong understanding of life beyond this earth

a) This was already well indicated (Psalm 16:10).
b) David had a very strong understanding of the life hereafter.
c) We have another text that speaks of his comprehension of the afterlife.

2. Life on this earth

a) There will always be wicked oppressors.
b) They must be resisted.
c) One great way of fighting them is to pray to the Lord for His vindication and protection.

3. Beyond this life on earth

David made two very profound statements concerning his understanding of life in the hereafter:-

a) “I will see Your face in righteousness”
i) This was a great statement of faith.
ii) There was every reason to believe that he would see God’s righteous face.
b) “I shall be satisfied when I awake in Your likeness”
i) The word “awake” is to be understood as being raised from the dead.
ii) David would then be as God originally made man… “In His image”.
