A HAPPY MEDITATION ON THE PERSON OF GOD

The psalmist David drew much strength from his meditation on the Person of God. The following text reveals what he thought about.

1. The attributes of the Person of God (Psalm 145:8-9)

a) Graciousness
b) Fullness of compassion
c) Slow to anger
d) Great in mercy
e) Good to all
f) Tender mercies seen all over His works

These thoughts are not new! However, when meditated upon prayerfully and lovingly, these thoughts bring about a great sense of closeness to God.

2. The works of God (Psalm 145:10-12)

a) His works cause His saints to praise Him.
b) His works display the power and might of God.

3. The Kingdom of God (Psalm 145:11-13)

a) His Kingdom is full of glory.
b) His Kingdom is full of power.
c) His Kingdom is marked by glorious majesty.
d) His Kingdom is an everlasting one that will last throughout all generations.

MEDITATION ON OLD TRUTHS

The psalmist David does not offer any significantly new truths. All of the above are great and wonderful truths that are already well known. The challenge of Psalm 145 is to meditate on these grand old truths till our souls are able to extol the Lord for the God that He is to us!

The ability to truly extol the Lord our God is sadly missing today. How wonderful it would be if we could emulate the example of the psalmist David in the cultivation and the practice of extolling the great name of the Lord.
