“The LORD shall send the rod of Your strength out of Zion…” Psalm 110:2a

A GLIMPSE OF THE MESSIANIC KINGDOM

This is a reference to the day when God will establish the Kingdom of the Messiah. We have a glimpse of that Messianic Kingdom in the following text.

“The LORD shall send the rod of Your strength out of Zion.
Rule in the midst of Your enemies!
Your people shall be volunteers in the day of Your power;
In the beauties of holiness, from the womb of the morning,
You have the dew of Your youth.”
Psalm 110:2-3

1. “The LORD”

a) The rod of Your strength
i) The Messianic Kingdom will be characterized by “strength”.
ii) The Messianic King will rule by a rod of strength.
iii) He will rule out of Zion (the capital).
iv) He will overcome all His enemies.
v) The LORD God will ensure all the above will come to pass.

2. The Lord’s people

a) The Messiah will have His people to support His rule of power.
b) They are called “volunteers” in this text (they serve the Lord voluntarily, out of love).
c) Who are these people?
i) Believers who have trusted in the Lord (Revelation 1:5).
ii) His faithful ones who are appointed “kings and priests” (Revelation 1:6).

3. Features of the Messiah

a) The beauties of holiness will be present right at the start (“the womb of the morning”).
b) Freshness and vitality will also be present always (“the dew of youth”).
