“For He satisfies the longing soul…” Psalm 107:9a

THE BLESSINGS OF GOD

Many are the blessings God has bestowed on His children, even on His errant ones. The psalmist attempts to list some of these blessings in Psalm 107.

“For He satisfies the longing soul,
And fills the hungry soul with goodness.”
Psalm 107:9

1. “The longing soul”

a) To those who were caught in the diaspora there would be much soul-longing.

b) The things longed for:-

i) Home; Israel

ii) Family

iii) Worship

2. “He satisfies”

a) With new hope

b) With precious memories

c) With a new-found faith

3. “The hungry soul”

a) Physical hunger is not absent.

b) Spiritual hunger is included.

4. “He fills… with goodness”

a) He gives good things (Psalm 103:5).

b) He also gives spiritual nourishment.

c) God’s goodness will search out the things the soul needs.

d) In His goodness He will also meet those needs graciously.
