THE PRECIOUS COVENANTS OF GOD

One of the greatest blessings of God must be said to be His “covenants”. A number of covenants are mentioned in the Scriptures and all of them meaningful and precious.

1. Noahic Covenant Genesis 8

2. Abrahamic Covenant Genesis 15

3. Sinaitic Covenant Exodus 24

4. Aaronic Covenant Malachi 2

5. New Covenant Jeremiah 31; Hebrews 8

GOD WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER HIS COVENANT

The Covenants are significant for many reasons. They mark historical, theological and personal significance of God’s relationship with mankind. The following highlights one more reason why covenants are so precious.

“And for their sake He remembered His covenant,
And relented according to the multitude of His mercies.”
Psalm 106:45

1. “And for their sake He remembered His covenant”

a) It was God who initiated all covenants.
b) In these covenants God promised that He would remember the following:-
i) His covenant promises
ii) His covenant people
c) For the sake of His covenant people, God would not forget His promises made to them.
Not even when they sinned against Him continually.

2. “And relented according to the multitude of His mercies”

a) God could have punished the children of Israel according to His laws (Leviticus 26:14-39).
b) God chose to relent from the fullness of His wrath.
c) Instead of wrath and punishment, God chose to exercise mercy.
d) The phrase “multitude of mercy” is only an apt description, and not an exaggeration.
