Day 169 – Psalm 106
“And He gave them into the hand of the Gentiles…” Psalm 106:41a
CONQUERED BY THE ENEMIES
Under the able leadership of Joshua, the children of Israel inherited the land of Canaan. However through their foolish misdeeds they were soon conquered by their enemies.
“And He gave them into the hand of the Gentiles,
And those who hated them ruled over them.
Their enemies also oppressed them,
And they were brought into subjection under their hand.”
Psalm 106:41-42
1. “And He gave them into the hand of the Gentiles”
a) The children of Israel had forsaken the Lord.
b) They chose to worship other gods.
c) God gave them over to the Gentiles in the land.
2. “And those who hated them ruled over them”
a) The Canaanites never liked the children of Israel.
b) They had in fact “hated them”.
c) The Gentiles were now ruling the children of Israel whom they hated.
3. “Their enemies also oppressed them”
Some of the enemies who oppressed them included the following:-
a) The Moabites Judges 3
b) The Midianites Judges 6-8
c) The Philistines Judges 13-16
4. “They were brought into subjection under their hand”
a) The children of Israel lost their inheritance.
b) They were barely eking out a living in their Promised Land.
c) They were brought under the subjection of those who resented and hated them.
This was the terrible consequence of forsaking the Lord who had delivered them from Egypt!
