Day 151 – Psalm 106

“Then they believed His words…” Psalm 106:12a

A CANDID APPROACH

The psalmist was candid in his appraisal of the general state of faith of the children of Israel in the days of Moses (Psalm 106:6-7). This candidness prevailed as he analyzed the times when the children of Israel displayed moments of faith.

“Then they believed His words;
They sang His praise.
They soon forgot His works;
They did not wait for His counsel.”
Psalm 106:12-13

1. “Then they believed His words”

a) The moment of belief was recorded (Exodus 14:30-31).
b) They saw the great work which the Lord had done (Exodus 14:31).
c) They feared the Lord and believed in Him and in His servant Moses (Exodus 14:31).

2. “They sang His praise”

a) Moses was inspired to write a special song to commemorate the crossing of the Red Sea (Exodus 15:1-18).
b) The children of Israel sang the praise of God, led by Miriam the prophetess (Exodus 15:20-21).

3. “They soon forgot His works”

a) Soon after they crossed the Red Sea and went into the Wilderness of Shur they forgot God’s great works.
b) In a matter of three days the people began to complain against Moses because the water supply seemed lacking (Exodus 15:24).

4. “They did not wait for His counsel”

a) This was the deeper problem.
b) They should have waited for the counsel of the Lord.
i) They could have sought the counsel of the Lord through Moses.
ii) Instead of seeking the Lord’s counsel they chose to complain. This spirit of complaining was an expression of a deep-seated problem of unbelief.
