Day 113 – Psalm 104

“He sends the springs into the valleys…” Psalm 104:10a

UTILITY OF WATER

God knew the significance of water to the earth. Deep appreciation of how God planned to utilize water may be found in the following text.

“He sends the springs into the valleys;
They flow among the hills.
They give drink to every beast of the field;
The wild donkeys quench their thirst.
By them the birds of the heavens have their home;
They sing among the branches.
He waters the hills from His upper chambers;
The earth is satisfied with the fruit of Your works.”
Psalm 104:10-13

1. Location of water

a) Springs in the valleys.
b) In the hills.

2. Function of water

a) To give drink to every beast of the field.
b) The wild donkeys quench their thirst (for example).
c) They provide nutrients to the trees (implied though not mentioned specifically).
d) The birds make their home in the trees that are kept alive because of adequate water supply.
e) The birds sing happily among the branches of the trees.
f) He waters the hills from His upper chambers.
i) This could well be a descriptive term for the place where rain clouds form.
ii) It is beautiful to think of the rain clouds as the upper chambers of water.

3. Satisfaction of God’s earth

The earth and all that God has created are satisfied with His work. The beautiful creation we see on earth may indeed be described as “the fruit of (God’s) work’. We do well to take time to appreciate God’s handiwork on earth.
