Day 81 – Psalm 101

“I will set nothing wicked before my eyes…” Psalm 101:3a

THE RULE OF THE KINGDOM

How should a king rule his kingdom? David determined that he would not become a wicked despot. He would reject wickedness outright.

“I will set nothing wicked before my eyes;
I hate the work of those who fall away;
It shall not cling to me.
A perverse heart shall depart from me;
I will not know wickedness.”
Psalm 101:3-4

1. With reference to Wickedness

a) “I will set nothing wicked before my eyes”
He will not tolerate wickedness.
b) “I will not know wickedness”
He refuses to be acquainted with anything wicked.

2. With reference to those who fall away

a) People can fall away because of unfaithfulness (no loyalty).
b) People can also fall away because they are not steadfast.
c) Sometimes people can fall away and lead a rebellion against the state.
d) David’s approach: “I hate the work of those who fall away”.

3. “It shall not cling to me”

a) Faithfulness was everything to David.
i) Faithfulness to God
ii) Faithfulness to his duties as king
b) Falling away was a spirit that would not be a part of his mindset.

4. “A perverse heart shall depart from me”

a) Perversity of heart was rejected outright.
b) Those who showed perversity will not stand before him.
