Text: Galatians 5: 24-26
MSITN VITAL DOCTRINES – SALVATION
“And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.”
Galatians 5:24-26
THE PROBLEM OF THE SINFUL FLESH
1. The problem of the sinful flesh must be recognised.
2. If not dealt with properly, the works of the flesh will result (Galatians 5:19-21).
A SOLUTION OFFERED
1. The flesh must be crucified to death.
a. Its wicked passion and desire must be put to death.
b. Only then can the flesh be overcome.
c. Paul practised this principle in his life (Galatians 2:20).
2. Living in the Spirit.
a. Putting to death the evil things of the flesh is one thing.
b. One must also seek to live in the Spirit.
c. It is when one lives in the Spirit, that the fruit of the Spirit will occur (Galatians 5:22-23).
3. Walk in the Spirit.
a. This must be carefully maintained.
b. Every effort must be made to walk in the Spirit in wisdom.
c. The Spirit Himself will teach and guide us as we seek to walk in faith.
d. Even more fruit would abound as we abide in the Lord.
4. Rejecting three negative approaches to life.
a. The problem of conceit.
This is where we think more highly of ourselves than we should.
b. The problem of provoking people.
Provocation is of the flesh and it is to be set aside.
c. The problem of envy.
Envy is a problem that we must deal with earnestly. How much wiser it is to appreciate the good that we see in others, than to envy them!
