MSITN VITAL DOCTRINES – SALVATION
“Is the law then against the promises of God? Certainly not! For if there had been a law given which could have given life, truly righteousness would have been by the law. But the Scripture has confined all under sin, that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe.”
Galatians 3:21-22
THE LAW AND THE PROMISE OF GOD
1. The traditional view of the Law.
a. If one kept the Law, justification would result.
b. This was the view of many.
2. Paul’s view of the Law.
a. Paul was correct.
b. The Law was never meant to bring about justification.
c. The Law was added to curb and punish wrongdoing.
3. Possible Misunderstanding:
a. Paul was aware that misunderstanding could arise.
b. Some might think that the Law and the Promises of God would clash.
4. Another attempt to explain the Law.
a. Was the Law intended to give life eternal?
The simple answer was “No!”
b. Could the law cause a person to be righteous, that is, justified?
Again, the straightforward answer was “No!”
5. What does the Scripture (the law) actually teach?
a. That all mankind is “confined” (as in “jailed”).
b. Sin would form the prison bars that confine all mankind.
c. The Law points out the fact that all have sinned.
6. The place of God’s promise in Scripture.
a. The promise by faith in the Lord Jesus is “justification”.
b. The promise of eternal life that goes with justification is given to all who believe.
c. All who believe are freed from the confinement of sin.

经文:加拉太书 3
“这样,律法是与神的应许反对吗?断乎不是。若曾传一个能叫人得生的律法,义就诚然本乎律法了。但圣经把众人都圈在罪里,使所应许的福因信耶稣基督归给那信的人。”
