Text: Colossians 2: 1-3
MSITN VITAL DOCTRINES – CHRISTOLOGY
“For I want you to know what a great conflict I have for you and those in Laodicea, and for as many as have not seen my face in the flesh, that their hearts may be encouraged, being knit together in love, and attaining to all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the knowledge of the mystery of God, both of the Father and of Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.”
Colossians 2:1-3
GREAT CONFLICT
1. Paul encountered many conflicts in his ministry of preaching the Gospel.
a. The Jews did not like to hear that Gentiles can receive salvation from God.
b. The Gentiles did not like to hear a message of believing in only one God.
c. Paul suffered much for the sake of the Gospel.
i. He suffered beatings.
ii. He had to endure being thrown into jail by bad and corrupt officials.
2. Paul was committed to:
a. Preaching and teaching.
b. Planting and establishing churches.
c. Laodicea in Asia Minor was one of the cities Paul visited.
3. Not everyone had seen Paul face-to-face.
a. The Colossians had not seen Paul personally.
b. He wrote to encourage the brethren in the Church at Colosse.
4. The focus of Paul’s ministry was to help the brethren have the following:
a. Encouragement in the heart.
b. Knit together as a Church community.
c. Finding full assurance in their understanding of faith in God.
5. To many, God was still “a mystery”.
a. Many did not know God the Father well.
b. Many others did not understand the Lord Jesus Christ too.
6. An encouragement to learn more about the Lord Jesus Christ.
a. In the Lord Jesus are great treasures:
i. Of wisdom.
ii. Of knowledge.
b. There should be great encouragement.
i. To grow in knowledge and wisdom.
ii. To grow in faith and in assurance.
iii. To learn to relate to God the Father better.
iv. To appreciate the role of the Lord Jesus Christ in life.
