Text: Luke 13: 25-27

THE DANGER OF BEING MISTAKEN

1. There were many who came to the Lord Jesus Christ.

a. Some misunderstood what coming to the Lord meant.
b. There was the assumption that coming to the Lord was the same as believing.

2. The door of opportunity to believe will not remain open indefinitely.

“When once the Master of the house has risen up and shut the door, and you begin to stand outside and knock at the door, saying, ‘Lord, Lord, open for us,’ and He will answer and say to you, ‘I do not know you, where you are from,’ then you will begin to say, ‘We ate and drank in Your presence, and You taught in our streets.’ But He will say, ‘I tell you I do not know you, where you are from. Depart
from Me, all you workers of iniquity.’”

a. There will come a day when the Master of the house will shut the door.
b. This was a thought that not many gave much thought to.

3. Pleas to be admitted.

a. There would be some who would stand outside and knock.
b. Their pleas:
i. “Lord, Lord” (Luke 13:25c)
They would address the Master of the house as “Lord”.
ii. “Open for us” (Luke 13:25d)
But on what basis could they ask that the door be opened to them?

4. The Reply of the Master of the house.

a. “I do not know you, where you are from” (Luke 13:25e)
b. There was never a personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ.
c. The Lord cannot acknowledge those who do not acknowledge Him.

5. The argument of those on the outside.

a. “We ate and drank in Your presence, and You taught in our streets” (Luke 13:26).
i. This may well be true.
ii. The Lord Jesus fed thousands.
iii. Some homes invited Him for meals.
iv. Many listened to the Lord Jesus as He taught.

6. The further reply of the Lord Jesus.

a. He will repeat what He said earlier.

“I do not know you, where you are from”

Luke 13:27a

b. A deeper explanation given.

“Depart from Me, all you workers of iniquity”

Luke 13:27b

i. They are to depart from the Lord’s presence.
ii. The people had continued in their iniquitous activities.
iii. They had not repented and followed the Lord!

iii.

iii.
