Text: Luke 11: 39-41

THE FAULT-FINDING PHARISEE

1. It is unlikely that the Pharisee was a close friend of the Lord Jesus.

2. It is also unlikely, that he was alone when he invited the Lord Jesus for a meal.

3. Some of his fellow-Pharisees were with him.

4. He had brought the Lord Jesus into his house only to find fault.

ADDRESSING THE PHARISEES

1. The Lord Jesus was not perturbed by the criticism He received.

2. He had every right to address them frankly.

THE SEVERE INTERNAL FAULT OF THE PHARISEES

1. The External: The Cup and Dish

a. They not only ensure that the hands are ritually washed clean.

b. They are also careful about how the cup and dish must also be cleaned (Luke 11:39a).

2. The Internal

a. The Lord addressed “the inward part” of the Pharisees.

b. They were “full of greed and wickedness” (Luke 11:39b).

A CHALLENGE TO THE PHARISEES

1. To consider God as the Maker.

a. He made the external (the body).

b. He also made the internal (heart and spirit) {Luke 11:40}.

2. To ponder what God desires.

a. To give alms of what they have (Luke 11:41a).

b. Then they would be clean indeed (Luke 11:41b).

c. The Pharisees did not care much for the poor and needy.

d. They were avaricious and covetous.

3. To think that God was very concerned about external rituals.

a. This was a mistaken understanding.

b. The internal problems are not resolved by hand-washing, nor by having clean cups and dishes.

b. 他们的里面充满了勒索和邪恶《路加福音 11：39b》

法利赛人的挑战

1. 将上帝视为创造者

a. 祂造在外面的（身体）

b. 祂也造在里面的（心和灵）《路加福音 11：40》

2. 思考上帝所意念的

a. 只要把里面的施舍给人《路加福音 11：41a》

b. 他们就都洁净了《路加福音 11：41b》

c. 法利赛人并不关心穷人或那些有需要的人

d. 他们是贪婪的

3. 认为上帝非常重视外在的仪式

a. 这是一个错误的理解

b. 在里面内在的问题不是靠洗手，或干净的杯盘而能解决的
