Text: Genesis 9: 8-11
MEDITATION
Genesis 9:8-11
8 Then God spoke to Noah and to his sons with him, saying:
9 “And as for Me, behold, I establish My covenant with you and with your descendants after you,
10 and with every living creature that is with you: the birds, the cattle, and every beast of the earth with you, of all that go out of the ark,
every beast of the earth.
11 Thus I establish My covenant with you: Never again shall all flesh be cut off by the waters of the flood; never again shall there be a flood to destroy the earth.”
MEANINGFUL APPLICATION TO LIFE
1. God’s word to Noah and his sons
a. God’s relationship was not only with Noah.
b. God spoke to Noah and his sons who were with him.
2. The extent of the covenant
a. With Noah.
b. With his son, Ham, Shem and Japheth.
c. With their descendants who were not yet born.
d. With all the animals that were brought into the ark.
3. The establishment of the covenant
a. Nuances of the word “established”:
i. To confirm.
ii. To make certain and definite.
iii. This covenant would exist as long as earth does.
b. Significance of the establishment of the Noahic covenant:
i. To bring a sense of relief.
ii. To offer assurance.
iii. To remove dread and fear.
iv. To bring gladness to the heart.
v. To fill the heart with gratitude to a great and merciful God.
