My Song In The Night (Genesis)
我夜间的歌曲《创世记》
Text: Genesis 6: 9-12
MEDITATION
Genesis 6:9-12
9 This is the genealogy of Noah. Noah was a just man, perfect in his generations. Noah walked with God.
10 And Noah begot three sons: Shem, Ham, and Japheth.
11 The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence.
12 So God looked upon the earth, and indeed it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted their way on the earth.
MEANINGFUL APPLICATION TO LIFE
1. Genealogy of Noah
a. This was simple and straightforward.
b. The past was not recorded.
c. Only the present: Noah and his three sons were named (Shem, Ham and Japheth).
2. The earth in the days of Noah
a. It was essentially “corrupt”.
b. Violence seems to be the order of the day.
3. God’s assessment of the state of affairs on earth
a. It was indeed corrupt.
b. All who dwelt on earth was blameworthy of corruption.
4. Noah stood out in stark contrast
a. He was a just man. He had a good sense of right and wrong.
b. “Perfect in his generations”
i. His behaviour was compared to that of others who dwelt on earth.
ii. The word “perfect” does not mean “sinless”. His life was outstanding in direct contrast to the corrupt earth.
c. “Noah walked with God”
i. This was similar to what Enoch did (Genesis 5:24).
ii. His walk with God helped preserve his way of life significantly.
