Text: Genesis 44: 6-9
MEDITATION
Genesis 44:6-9
6 So he overtook them, and he spoke to them these same words.
7 And they said to him, “Why does my lord say these words? Far be it from us that your servants should do such a thing.
8 Look, we brought back to you from the land of Canaan the money which we found in the mouth of our sacks. How then could we steal silver or gold from your lord’s house?
9 With whomever of your servants it is found, let him die, and we also will be my lord’s slaves.”
MEANINGFUL APPLICATION TO LIFE
1. Confronting the brothers
a. The steward caught up with the brothers of Joseph.
b. He then uttered the words he was instructed to speak to them.
2. The reply of the brothers
a. They were shocked to hear these allegations.
b. They protested their innocence. They claimed that they could never have stolen anything from the governor.
3. They reiterated their statements
a. They had come to Egypt for the following reasons:
i. To return the money they had found in their sacks.
ii. To purchase food on this trip.
b. How could they have been charged with stealing from the governor’s house?
i. Whether gold.
ii. Or silver.
iii. They must have seen many objects made of these precious metals in the home of the governor.
4. A solemn oath
a. If one of them had stolen anything that belonged to Joseph, he would be killed.
b. All of them would surrender themselves as slaves to the governor.
