My Song In The Night (Genesis)
我夜间的歌曲《创世记》
Text: Genesis 27: 43-45
MEDITATION
Genesis 27:43-45
43 Now therefore, my son, obey my voice: arise, flee to my brother Laban in Haran.
44 And stay with him a few days, until your brother’s fury turns away,
45 until your brother’s anger turns away from you, and he forgets what you have done to him; then I will send and bring you from there. Why should I be bereaved also of you both in one day?”
MEANINGFUL APPLICATION TO LIFE
1. Rebekah’s advice
a. She wants Jacob to obey her voice again.
b. Her previous advice had led to the anger of Esau against Jacob.
c. Nevertheless, she wants Jacob to obey her in this matter.
2. Fleeing from home
a. Jacob must not risk being in the presence of Esau.
b. He may yet kill him out of sheer anger (even before Isaac’s death).
3. Seeking refuge in the home of Laban
a. Laban was the brother of Rebekah.
b. He lived very far away from Canaan.
c. He should stay there until the fury in Esau was gone.
4. Jacob could plan to return
a. Rebekah would send for him.
b. She too thought that Isaac would die soon.
c. She could not risk losing her son Jacob also.
d. That would be double sorrow for her.
5. On the surface
This sounded like a good and wise plan. But this plan was flawed. She had not included the LORD in all her plans!
