MEDITATION
Genesis 27:41-42
41 So Esau hated Jacob because of the blessing with which his father blessed him, and Esau said in his heart, “The days of mourning for my father are at hand; then I will kill my brother Jacob.”
42 And the words of Esau her older son were told to Rebekah. So she sent and called Jacob her younger son, and said to him, “Surely your brother Esau comforts himself concerning you by intending to kill you.
MEANINGFUL APPLICATION TO LIFE
1. Esau’s regard for his twin-brother
a. Esau hated Jacob.
b. Because he had stolen the first-born blessing.
2. Esau’s plan
a. He thought that his father would die soon.
b. He would wait till the days of mourning were over.
c. He would then kill Jacob his brother.
3. The words of Esau
a. These were initially just thoughts.
b. They became words which were reported to Rebekah.
4. Rebekah’s deep concern
a. She summoned Jacob.
b. Once again, she gave a command to her beloved son.
i. He must give heed to her words.
ii. He must know that Esau harboured murderous thoughts towards Jacob, even if they were twin brothers.
iii. Jacob must not be oblivious of this frightening reality.
