MEDITATION
Genesis 21:25-27
25 Then Abraham rebuked Abimelech because of a well of water which Abimelech’s servants had seized.
26 And Abimelech said, “I do not know who has done this thing; you did not tell me, nor had I heard of it until today.”
27 So Abraham took sheep and oxen and gave them to Abimelech, and the two of them made a covenant.
MEANINGFUL APPLICATION TO LIFE
1. A breach of agreement
a. An incident took place over a well of water.
b. Water was of immense value in those days.
c. A well of water that Abraham had dug was seized by Abimelech’s servants.
2. Abraham’s complaint
a. He went to Abimelech.
b. He rebuked Abimelech for the action of his servants.
c. The king was held responsible for the deeds of his servants.
3. Abimelech’s protest
a. He did not know who had seized the well.
b. He protested that he was ignorant concerning this incident.
c. He came to know about it only because Abraham had informed him.
4. Resolving the problem
a. Abraham wanted to establish a covenant with Abimelech.
b. This type of covenant is different from what God gave Abraham.
c. This would be a binding parity covenant between Abraham and Abimelech.
