MEDITATION
Genesis 21:4-7
4 Then Abraham circumcised his son Isaac when he was eight days old, as God had commanded him.
5 Now Abraham was one hundred years old when his son Isaac was born to him.
6 And Sarah said, “God has made me laugh, and all who hear will laugh with me.”
7 She also said, “Who would have said to Abraham that Sarah would nurse children? For I have borne him a son in his old age.”
MEANINGFUL APPLICATION TO LIFE
1. The circumcision of Isaac
a. Abraham circumcised Isaac when he was eight days old.
b. This was in obedience to what God had commanded.
c. Circumcision was the sign of the Covenant God gave to Abraham.
2. The happy parents of Isaac
a. Abraham was 100 years old when Isaac was born.
b. Sarah added a new nuance to the name “Isaac”.
i. There was a new-found joyous laughter.
ii. God has given her laughter that came from giving birth to Isaac.
iii. She knew that well-wishers would laugh with her when they hear their story of how God promised them a son.
c. A further word from Sarah
i. She was still expressing astonishment that she could bear a child at her age.
ii. She was conscious that at her age, giving birth was humanly impossible.
iii. But God had given them a wondrous promise and that Word of the Lord had been fulfilled.
