Text: Exodus 21: 28-32

MEDITATION

Exodus 21:28-32

28 “If an ox gores a man or a woman to death, then the ox shall surely be stoned, and its flesh shall not be eaten; but the owner of the ox shall be acquitted.
29 But if the ox tended to thrust with its horn in times past, and it has been made known to his owner, and he has not kept it confined, so that it has killed a man or a woman, the ox shall be stoned and its owner also shall be put to death.
30 If there is imposed on him a sum of money, then he shall pay to redeem his life, whatever is imposed on him.
31 Whether it has gored a son or gored a daughter, according to this judgment it shall be done to him.
32 If the ox gores a male or female servant, he shall give to their master thirty shekels of silver, and the ox shall be stoned.

MEANINGFUL APPLICATION TO LIFE

1. A case involving an ox

a. If an ox gores a person to death (man or woman), the ox is deemed to be dangerous.
b. It is to be put down by stoning.
c. The flesh of the ox is not to be eaten.
d. The owner is not to be punished.

2. If the ox has been known to gore people in the past

a. And this fact was known to the owner
b. But he had not confined the ox
c. The death penalty would be issued against:
i. The ox
ii. The owner

3. Appeal from the owner

a. Appeals are possible.
b. If the case is deemed just, he would only be fined and not executed.

4. If the ox has gored a son or a daughter

a. The owner would be given a fair trial.
b. Fines may be imposed according to the judgment of the court.

5. If the ox has gored a slave (male or female.

a. He will make payment to the owner of the slave.
b. The ox would be put to death.

《出埃及记 21:28-32》
28“牛若触死男人或是女人,总要用石头打死那牛,却不可吃它的肉,牛的主人可算无罪。
29倘若那牛素来是触人的,有人报告了牛主,他竟不把牛拴着,以致把男人或是女人触死,就要用石头打死那牛,牛主也必治死。
30若罚他赎命的价银,他必照所罚的赎他的命。
31牛无论触了人的儿子或是女儿,必照这例办理。

32牛若触了奴仆或是婢女,必将银子三十舍客勒给他们的主人,也要用石头把牛打死。

在生活里有意义地应用

1. 一个有关牛的事件

a. 如果一头牛触死一个人(男或女),那头牛便视为是危险的
b. 它将被石头打死
c. 但不可以吃那头牛的肉
d. 主人不会被罚

2. 如果那牛以前曾触死过别人

a. 如果主人知道这回事
b. 但并没有把牛拴着
c. 死罪将会判给:
i. 那头牛
ii. 主人

3. 主人上诉

a. 主人可以上诉
b. 如果该案被视为合理的,主人就只会被罚款而不会被处决

4. 如果那头牛触了人家的儿子或女儿

a. 主人会得到公正的审判
b. 可以根据法院的判决处以罚款

5. 如果那头牛触了奴仆或是婢女

a. 他必赔钱给仆人的主人
b. 牛也会被石头打死
