"Concerning the prophets who make My people stray"

Text: Micah 3:5

THE PROPHETS

While there were good and true prophets in Israel, like Micah, there were also those who call themselves “prophets”. These were false prophets and God had a word to give to them.

“Thus says the LORD concerning the prophets
Who make my people stray;
Who chant ‘Peace’
While they chew with their teeth,
But who prepare war against him
Who puts nothing into their mouths.”
Micah 3:5

1. “Thus says the LORD concerning the prophets”

b) Micah would have to face them courageously.
i) He would have to confront them.
ii) He would have to expose their wicked ways.

2. “Concerning the prophets”

a) These were self-styled prophets.
b) They were false and wicked.
c) They would have no word from the Lord.

3. The deeds of these false prophets

a) They led people astray.
b) They did not bring people back in repentance to God.
c) The ignorant and the gullible would be easily led astray.

4. “Who chant ‘Peace'”

a) This is their mantra.
b) They say this to everyone who comes to seek them for counsel.

5. “While they chew with their teeth”

a) They are always busy chewing food.
b) They have no genuine word from the Lord at all.

6. “But who prepare war against him who puts nothing into their mouths”

a) If a person comes to consult without bringing a gift of money or food.
b) This evil prophet would war against the individual.
c) All the false prophets seek to do was to feed their belly!
