“Be sober, be vigilant, because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.” 1 Peter 5:8

THE DAY OF JUDGMENT

Back in the mind of Jesus, the Day of Judgment was something very real. It would be a sad and solemn day for all who had rejected the message of salvation.

1. An Old Testament concept

The idea of the Day of Judgment was not a new doctrine at all. This idea may be traced all the way back to the Old Testament. It is one of the most consistent themes mentioned in the Scriptures.

2. Judgment of Sodom and Gomorrah

The twin cities were visited by angelic beings. Their task was to see if these cities could somehow be spared from judgment. If they could find just ten righteous people in the twin cities, they would be spared. Sadly, the angels of God could not even find ten righteous people in Sodom and Gomorrah. The cities were so caught up with their pursuit of unrighteousness that they were wiped out through a Divine Act of judgment (Cf. Genesis 19).

3. All would be judged

Jesus gave a startling word to His disciples concerning those who would reject the Gospel of the kingdom of God they would proclaim.

a) The Gospel presented the solution to man’s problem of sin.
b) All anyone needs to do would be the following:-
i) Acknowledgment of sin
ii) Repentance of sin
iii) Acceptance of the offer to enter into the kingdom of God
iv) All would have to accept Jesus as their personal Saviour
v) Personal faith must of course be exercised

THE MINISTRY OF THE DISCIPLES APPRECIATED

The ministry of the Disciples must be appreciated in the right perspective:-

1. Their ministry would not be lesser than that of Jesus!

2. Grave consequences or blessing attend their ministry, as in the case of Jesus.
