“And sold their possessions and goods, and divided them among all, as anyone had need.” Acts 2:45
WARNING AGAINST SPECULATION
The subject of the End Times is most fascinating. It has drawn many to speculative theology. Jesus warned against this approach.
“But of that day and hour no one knows,
not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son,
but only the Father.”
MARK 13:32
1. Attempts to discover “the day and hour” of Jesus’ return
Every single attempt has failed. All future attempts are doomed to failure! It is futile to venture to prise open that which God Himself has sealed.
2. Not the angels
This is understandable, for angels are but servants of the Lord, even though they are angelic beings.
3. Nor the Son
This phrase is best understood with reference to the time when Jesus was on earth. His incarnation saw Him wholly subjected to His Father.
4. Only the Father
Jesus did not begrudge the Father this prerogative. He is not discontented that only the Father knows when the day and hour would be- when He would return to earth!
INSTEAD OF SPECULATION
How then should we approach this subject of the End Times? The following words are but apt and challenging!
“Take heed, watch and pray;
for you do not know when the time is.”
MARK 13:33
