Day 19

"He walked with Me in peace and equity"

Text: Malachi 2:6

GOOD EXAMPLES

There were good examples that the priests and Levites could have emulated. Instead, they chose poorly. The example of Phinehas was highlighted for good reason.

“The law of truth was in his mouth,
And injustice was not found on his lips.
He walked with Me in peace and equity,
And turned many away from iniquity.”
Malachi 2:6

1. The example of Phinehas

a) “The law of truth”
i) He knew the Law well.
ii) Truth (the Law) was in his mouth (that is, “on his lips”).
b) Injustice
i) The Levites were also tasked to help teach the nation.
ii) They were sometimes involved in judiciary matters.
iii) In everything they did, there was no “injustice”.
c) “He walked with Me in peace and equity”
i) Phinehas maintained a close walk with the LORD.
ii) This was evidenced in his life.
iii) He promoted peace and found it as a special blessing from God.
iv) Equity in judicial matters suggests that he was “fair and impartial”.
d) “Turned many away from iniquity”
i) Phinehas was a blessing to many.
ii) He helped many to turn away from a life of sin.

2. The priests and Levites in the days of Malachi

Sadly, they failed to live up to the standard exemplified by Phinehas.
The problem lay in the fact that their walk with the LORD was terribly lacking!
