Jeremiah
"Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, My servant"
Text: Jeremiah 43:10
THE SOVEREIGNTY OF THE LORD
The remnant of Judah was now in Egypt. But the word of the LORD was sent to Jeremiah to be delivered to the remnant. This was a cryptic prophetic word from the LORD.
“Then the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah in Tahpanhes, saying,
‘Take large stones in your hand, and hide them in the sight of the men of Judah,
in the clay in the brick courtyard which is at the entrance
to Pharaoh’s house in Tahpanhes;
and say to them,
‘Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel:
‘Behold, I will send and bring Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, My servant,
and will set his throne above these stones that I have hidden.
And he will spread his royal pavilion over them.”'”
Jeremiah 43:8-10
1. “Then the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah in Tahpanhes, saying”
a) Did the remnant think that God was confined in Judah?
b) This was a mistaken understanding.
c) God had a word for the remnant of Judah in Egypt.
2. “Take large stones in your hand, and hide them in the sight of the men of Judah,
in the clay in the brick courtyard which is at the entrance to Pharaoh’s house in Tahpanhes”
a) Large stones were to be taken by Jeremiah.
b) But these would be hidden from the sight of the remnant.
c) These stones would be hidden in the courtyard of the entrance of Pharaoh’s house.
d) Tahpanhes was one of the cities where Pharaoh had a residence.
3. “And say to them, ‘Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: ‘Behold, I will send and bring Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, My servant, and will set his throne above these stones that I have hidden. And he will spread his royal pavilion over them””
a) This was a prophetic word from the LORD of hosts.
b) God would send Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon to Egypt.
c) God is sovereign over all, including Nebuchadnezzar.
d) The Babylonian king was not more than a servant of the LORD.
e) Nebuchadnezzar would set up his throne on the stones that Jeremiah had hidden.
f) He would erect a royal pavilion over the stones.
g) The proud men of the remnant of Judah were wrong to disobey God stubbornly.
