"Do not go to Egypt"

Text: Jeremiah 42:19

A CLEAR COMMAND

The remnant of Judah had approached Jeremiah to inquire from the LORD if they should go to Egypt. They were afraid that if they were to stay in Judah, the Babylonians might kill them. The LORD gave them a very clear command!

“For thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel:
‘As My anger and My fury have been poured out on the inhabitants of Jerusalem,
so will My fury be poured out on you when you enter Egypt.
And you shall be an oath, an astonishment, a curse, and a reproach;
and you shall see this place no more.’
‘The LORD has said concerning you, O remnant of Judah, ‘Do not go to Egypt!’
Know certainly that I have admonished you this day.'”
Jeremiah 42:18-19

and you shall see this place no more'”

ii) An astonishment.

iii) A curse.

iv) A reproach.

c) Meaning of the statement above.

i) They would become a derisive remark people would employ.

ii) They would bring disaster upon themselves.

iii) They would never see Judah again.

2. “The LORD has said concerning you, O remnant of Judah, ‘Do not go to Egypt!’ Know certainly that I have admonished you this day”

a) This word came from the LORD Himself.

b) The remnant of Judah is in full view here.

c) This was a very strong word of admonishment! “Do not go to Egypt!”
