"The Throne of the LORD"

Text: Jeremiah 3:17

THE LOSS OF THE ARK

In the past, the main concern was “the ark of the covenant”, and understandably so. But with the captivity of Judah, the Ark would be lost completely. Nobody has ever found the Ark after Babylon destroyed the kingdom of Judah.

A NEW CATCH-PHRASE

When the Lord had brought His people back, the new catchphrase would be vastly different! The new focus would be “The Throne of the LORD”.

“At that time Jerusalem shall be called The Throne of the LORD,
and all the nations shall be gathered to it,
to the name of the LORD, to Jerusalem.
No more shall they follow the dictates of their evil hearts.”
Jeremiah 3:17

1. “At that time Jerusalem shall be called The Throne of the LORD”

a) The focus would not be the Ark of the covenant.

i) That represented the old ways.
ii) A new way would be shown and taught.
b) The focus would be Jerusalem itself.

i) This was a Prophecy of the distant future.
ii) The details of this Prophecy would be revealed a bit at a time.
c) “The Throne of the LORD”

i) The LORD would establish a new Kingdom.
ii) He would be the Resident King.
iii) His throne would be Jerusalem, the future spiritual capital.

2. “And all the nations shall be gathered to it, to the name of the LORD, to Jerusalem”

a) “All nations shall be gathered to it”

i) This is prophetic.
ii) It is not yet fulfilled.
b) Gathered to:

i) The name of the LORD.
ii) To Jerusalem.
c) This was repeated:

i) To express certainty.
ii) To highlight.
iii) To emphasise.

3. God gave this word to Solomon when he dedicated the temple

a) Place- Jerusalem
“I… have chosen this place for Myself” 2 Chronicles 7:12
b) Name
“That My name may be there forever” 2 Chronicles 7:16b
c) Eyes and heart
“My eyes and My heart will be there perpetually” 2 Chronicles 7:16c

The sins of the kings and the people had caused God to allow Jerusalem to be destroyed.

4. “No more shall they follow the dictates of their evil hearts”

a) The nation of Judah had followed the dictates of their hearts.
b) Their hearts were evil, yet the people followed whatever their hearts told them.
c) The old ways of sin would cease forever when the Lord has established Jerusalem as “The Throne of the LORD”.
