"Because they have not heeded My words"

Text: Jeremiah 29:19

NOT HEEDING GOD’S WORD I

The problem of not heeding God’s word was a long and deep one. From the days of Moses to the ministry of Jeremiah, the problem of not heeding God’s word remained! This was a chronic problem that was once again raised up!

“Because they have not heeded My words, says the LORD,
which I sent to them by My servants the prophets,
rising up early and sending them;
neither would you heed, says the LORD.
Therefore hear the word of the LORD, all you of the captivity,
whom I have sent from Jerusalem to Babylon.”
Jeremiah 29:19-20

1. “Because they have not heeded My words, says the LORD”

c) The Captives in Babylon had also not heeded His words.

2. “Which I sent to them by My servants the prophets, rising up early and sending them;
neither would you heed, says the LORD”

ii) The prophets (the true ones)

b) God’s part described in human idiomatic language.

i) Rising up early.

ii) And sending them.

c) Jeremiah was not the only prophet sent

i) There were other prophets.

ii) But their words were not heeded either.

3. “Therefore hear the word of the LORD, all you of the captivity, whom I have sent from Jerusalem to Babylon”

a) This word was especially directed to the Captives in Babylon.

b) The LORD reminded them that He was the One who sent them.

i) From Jerusalem

ii) To Babylon

c) This experience should have taught them deep lessons about the need to heed God’s word!

d) Because it is God’s word:

i) It is true.

ii) It would be fulfilled.

iii) It has the authority and power of God undergirding the word proclaimed by the prophets of the LORD.
