"If you will not listen to Me"

Text: Jeremiah 26:4

A SOLEMN WORD OF WARNING

This was the word of warning given to Jehoiakim after he ascended the throne, appointed by the Egyptians. Jehoiakim was, or course, surrounded by his supporters.

“And you shall say to them,
‘Thus says the LORD:
‘If you will not listen to Me, to walk in My law which I have set before you,
to heed the words of My servants the prophets whom I sent to you,
both rising up early and sending them (but you have not heeded),
then I will make this house like Shiloh,
and will make this city a curse to all the nations of the earth.””
Jeremiah 26:4-6

1. “And you shall say to them, ‘Thus says the LORD'”

a) This was a word that came from God.

b) Jeremiah was to speak with the authority of the LORD.

2. Admonition given:

a) “If you will not listen to Me, to walk in My law which I have set before you”

i) If the people would not listen.

ii) If they would not walk in God’s law set before them.

b) “To heed the words of My servants the prophets whom I sent to you, both rising up early and sending them (but you have not heeded)”

i) They were supposed to heed the prophets of God.

ii) They were special servants whom God had sent to them.

iii) God had, as it were, risen up early to send them to Judah.

iv) These servants had not been heeded at all, thus far.

c) “Then I will make this house like Shiloh, and will make this city a curse to all the nations of the earth”

i) Grave consequences would follow.

ii) Jerusalem would become like Shiloh (in the days of Eli the high priest).
{1 Samuel 1-5}

iii) Jerusalem would become an accursed city.

iv) This shameful consequence would become known to all
the nations of the world!

v) The nations of the earth would treat Jerusalem with contempt
and total disregard, since it was cursed by the LORD.
