"Fall and rise no more"

Text: Jeremiah 25:27

NO ESCAPE FROM GOD’S JUDGMENT

The judgment that God had planned was impossible to escape from. Many may imagine that they will be able to find a way from God’s wrath, but this would prove to be impossible!

“Therefore you shall say to them,
‘Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel:
‘Drink, be drunk, and vomit! Fall and rise no more,
because of the sword which I will send among you.”
And it shall be, if they refuse to take the cup from your hand to drink,
then you shall say to them,
‘Thus says the LORD of hosts:
‘You shall certainly drink!
For behold, I begin to bring calamity on the city which is called by My name,
and should you be utterly unpunished?
You shall not be unpunished,
for I will call for a sword on all the inhabitants of the earth,”
says the LORD of hosts.”
Jeremiah 25:27-29

1. “Therefore you shall say to them, ‘Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel:
‘Drink, be drunk, and vomit! Fall and rise no more, because of the sword which I will send among you.””

a) This was the word that Jeremiah must proclaim:

i) As from the LORD of hosts.

ii) The God of Israel.

b) All must drink of the cup of fury.

i) They will become drunk and vomit.

ii) They will fall and not be able to rise up anymore.

c) The sword that God would bring would see to the destruction of the mightiest of kingdoms.

2. “And it shall be, if they refuse to take the cup from your hand to drink,
then you shall say to them, ‘Thus says the LORD of hosts: ‘You shall certainly drink!””

a) No one would be able to escape this judgment.

b) No kingdom will be excused.

c) For all kingdoms have been found guilty of wickedness.

d) No human being would be excused too!

3. “‘For behold, I begin to bring calamity on the city which is called by My name, and should you be utterly unpunished? You shall not be unpunished, for I will call for a sword on all the inhabitants of the earth,’ says the LORD of hosts.”

a) Jerusalem thought that it would be exempted from judgment. God decreed otherwise.

b) The city called by God’s name was none other than Jerusalem.
But the city would not go unpunished!

c) The sword would be raised against Jerusalem.

d) And also on all the inhabitants of the earth who do wickedly.
