"Sing to the LORD!"

Text: Jeremiah 20:13

PRAYER OF JEREMIAH III

We continue with our study of Jeremiah’s prayer. He now focuses on the Lord to whom he was praying.

“But, O LORD of hosts,
You who test the righteous,
And see the mind and heart,
Let me see Your vengeance on them;
For I have pleaded my cause before You.
Sing to the LORD! Praise the LORD!
For He has delivered the life of the poor
From the hand of evildoers.”
Jeremiah 20:12-13

1. “But, O LORD of hosts, You who test the righteous, and see the mind and heart”

a) Jeremiah’s knowledge of God was correct.
b) God is indeed the LORD of hosts.
c) He certainly “tests the righteous”.
d) And He is able to “see the heart and the mind”.

2. “Let me see Your vengeance on them; for I have pleaded my cause before You”

a) Jeremiah’s prayer now takes on an element of imprecation.
b) He has pleaded his case before God.
c) He would like to see God “take vengeance” on his enemies.

3. “Sing to the LORD! Praise the LORD! For He has delivered the life of the poor from the hand of evildoers”

a) For a brief moment, Jeremiah was able to:
i) Sing to the LORD.
ii) Give praise to Him.
b) He trusts that God would:
i) Vindicate him (Psalms 17, 26).
ii) Deliver the life of the poor from the evildoers.
iii) Jeremiah would be one of the people whom God will deliver.
