Day 21

"Neither did they say, 'Where is the LORD?'"

Text: Jeremiah 2:6

NATURAL TO ASK QUESTIONS

Children ask questions endlessly. To ask questions is the most natural thing to do. One asks questions at every stage of life. It is most unnatural not to ask any question at all. This was the state of Israel!

“Neither did they say, ‘Where is the LORD,
Who brought us up out of the land of Egypt,
Who led us through the wilderness,
Through a land of deserts and pits,
Through a land of drought and the shadow of death,
Through a land that no one crossed
And where no one dwelt?'”
Jeremiah 2:6

1. “Neither did they say, ‘Where is the LORD, who brought us up out of the land of Egypt'”

a) To be brought out of a land of tyranny was a monumental experience, to say the least.
i) There were 10 mighty plagues unleashed on Egypt.
ii) The children of Israel crossed the mighty Red Sea dry-shod.
iii) The powerful Egyptian chariot army was defeated.
b) But no one inquired “Where is the LORD?”
i) There seemed to be no interest at all in God.
ii) This was highly unnatural to be so ungrateful!

2. “Who led us through the wilderness, through a land of deserts and pits, through a land of drought and the shadow of death, through a land that no one crossed and where no one dwelt?”

a) The wilderness was described effectively.
i) There were deserts and pits.
ii) A land of drought.
iii) The shadow of death was palpably felt.
iv) It was a land that “no one had crossed” before.
v) No one dwelt in the wilderness.
b) But no one asked “Where is the LORD?”
i) The LORD was not sought for protection.
ii) He was not sought for direction.
iii) He was not sought at all.

This was so very unnatural! How could a nation be so spiritually insensitive?
