"The fountain of living waters"

Text: Jeremiah 17:13

RIGHT FROM THE BEGINNING

If only the children of Israel would return to their roots. What was God to them in the beginning was but forgotten!

“A glorious high throne from the beginning
Is the place of our sanctuary.
O LORD, the hope of Israel,
All who forsake You shall be ashamed.
‘Those who depart from Me
Shall be written in the earth,
Because they have forsaken the LORD,
The fountain of living waters.'”
Jeremiah 17:12-13

1. “A glorious high throne from the beginning is the place of our sanctuary”

a) “From the beginning”
i) The Lord had provided them a sanctuary.
ii) He Himself was the sanctuary.
b) The physical expressions:
i) The Tabernacle

“And let them make Me a sanctuary, that I may dwell among them.”
Exodus 25:8

ii) The Temple

“For now I have chosen and sanctified this house,
that My name may be there forever…”
2 Chronicles 7:16

iii) A glorious high throne… the place of our sanctuary.
A) God’s sanctuary was also His high throne.
B) The children of Israel/ Judah had forgotten this truth!

2. “O LORD, the hope of Israel, all who forsake You shall be ashamed”

a) God was the hope of Israel.
b) If only the nation would return to God. They would find Hope again!
c) Those who forsake Him would be ashamed indeed!

3. “Those who depart from Me shall be written in the earth, because they have forsaken the LORD, the fountain of living waters”

a) God affirmed what Jeremiah said.
i) Those who depart from Him.
ii) They will be regarded as those who have “forsaken the LORD”.
b) Who was the LORD?
i) He is the “Fountain of living waters!”
ii) All will perish who forsake God.
