"I have this day set you over the nations"

Text: Jeremiah 1:10

THE MISSION OF JEREMIAH

Jeremiah was given a mission even as God called him to be a prophet. With this mission came the authority to be a prophet!

“See, I have this day set you over the nations and over the kingdoms,
To root out and to pull down,
To destroy and to throw down,
To build and to plant.”
Jeremiah 1:10

1. “See, I have this day set you over the nations and over the kingdoms”

a) All nations and kingdoms
i) The kings exercise power and authority over their subjects.
ii) Their word holds sway over many things.
iii) They command and control.
b) The prophet of God will be given authority.
i) They can withstand the power and authority of kings.
ii) They have the authority to speak on behalf of the Lord.
iii) Jeremiah need not be afraid of the power of the nations and kingdoms, for God’s authority is far greater.

2. The tearing down of kingdoms and nations

a) God can cause any kingdom to falter and fail.
b) Jeremiah can wield the words of authority from God:
i) To root out
ii) To pull down
iii) To destroy
iv) To throw down
c) That power of God must be exercised judiciously:
i) With wisdom
ii) With discernment
iii) With prudence

3. The building of a kingdom

a) The word of power can build up a kingdom.
b) It can also cause a nation to be planted firmly.

4. The word that is proclaimed

a) It will have to come from the Lord.
b) It will be given by the Lord.
c) The prophet of God must not be afraid to proclaim what he is given.
d) He who has been given such authority and power need fear no one at all.
