Day 11

"The word of the LORD came to me the second time"

Text: Jeremiah 1:13

THE CRUCIAL WORD OF THE LORD

The training of Jeremiah continued. God revealed another vision and Jeremiah was asked what he saw.

“And the word of the LORD came to me the second time,
saying, ‘What do you see?’
And I said, ‘I see a boiling pot,
and it is facing away from the north.'”
Jeremiah 1:13

1. “And the word of the LORD came to me the second time”

a) The word of the Lord had come once.
b) It came a second time.
c) It will continue to come.
d) It must, for the word of Lord was of crucial importance:
i) To inform
ii) To instruct
iii) To inspire

2. “What do you see?”

a) Jeremiah’s part was to observe.
b) His powers of observation must be maintained.
c) If possible, those powers must be sharpened.

3. Jeremiah’s observation

a) He saw “a boiling pot”.
i) But what did that mean?
ii) Observation was not interpretation.
iii) Observation in itself was incomplete.
b) “It is facing away from the North”
i) Jeremiah had observed well.
ii) The direction of the pot mattered.
c) “The North”
i) This was the direction from which marauders had come in the past.
ii) Assyria had come from the north and had conquered Israel.
iii) The threat to Judah was also coming from the North.

4. Part of the Preparation for Ministry

a) God was preparing Jeremiah for ministry to Judah.
b) There would be a powerful enemy coming from the North.
c) It was compared to a boiling pot.
i) The contents of the boiling pot will be poured onto the South.
ii) Judah was in the path of the contents of the boiling pot spilling over.
