"Your Maker is your husband"

Text: Isaiah 54:5

A GLORIOUS RELATIONSHIP

Israel had a wonderful relationship with God. The nation was described as being espoused to the LORD. Marriage was understood as a covenant relationship.

“For your Maker is your husband,
The LORD of hosts is His name;
And your Redeemer is the Holy One of Israel;
He is called the God of the whole earth.”
Isaiah 54:5

1. Multiple perspectives.

a) God as the Maker (Creator).

b) He is also the God of the whole earth.

c) He is also the Redeemer (Saviour).

2. A special aspect highlighted.

a) The LORD is described as “Husband” to Israel.

b) This described a number of things:

i) God’s love for Israel.

ii) His covenant relationship as Husband.

iii) His commitment.

iv) His loving concern.

v) His closeness.

3. Israel’s Husband is no ordinary person.

a) His name is “LORD of hosts”.

i) He commands a mighty army.

ii) His army is made up of mighty angels.

b) He is “The Holy One of Israel”.

i) He is righteous.

ii) He will always be faithful and true to His word given.

c) He is the Redeemer.

i) The LORD was the One who redeemed Israel from slavery.

ii) He will always have a special regard for His redeemed ones.
