"He bore the sin of many"

Text: Isaiah 53:12

THE REWARD OF THE MESSIAH

The Messiah would be vindicated by the LORD. He would also be rewarded for all that He had done in His life and ministry.

“Therefore I will divide Him a portion with the great,
And He shall divide the spoil with the strong,
Because He poured out His soul unto death,
And He was numbered with the transgressors,
And He bore the sin of many,
And made intercession for the transgressors.”
Isaiah 53:12

1. The reward that comes with victory.

a) The Messiah had conquered Satan and Sin.

b) He would be rewarded with the spoils of war.

i) He would be given a portion with the great.

ii) He would divide the spoils with the strong.

iii) To the victor belongs the spoils of war.

2. The battle that the Messiah had fought and won.

a) It was a spiritual battle.

b) It was a battle for the soul of Man.

c) The Messiah poured out His soul unto death.

3. The great cost of this spiritual battle.

a) He was numbered with the transgressors.

i) He was sentenced to be crucified.

ii) He was crucified with two notorious robbers.

b) But He did not die as a convicted transgressor.

i) He died as a sin-bearer.

ii) He bore the sins of many.

c) He made intercession for the transgressors.

i) On the cross, the Messiah prayed for transgressors.

ii) He cried out:

“Father, forgive them for they do not know what they do”
Luke 23:34

iii) He continues to be our great High Priest and Intercessor Hebrews 2:17
