Day 400

"Who among you fears the LORD?"

Text: Isaiah 50:10

A STRONG WORD OF EXHORTATION

Isaiah took up the challenge to give a good and strong word of exhortation. He must have been deeply moved by what the LORD had revealed to him concerning the Messiah. The challenge was to respond to the LORD’s word and to return to Him.

“Who among you fears the LORD?
Who obeys the voice of His Servant?
Who walks in darkness
And has no light?
Let him trust in the name of the LORD
And rely upon his God.
Look, all you who kindle a fire,
Who encircle yourselves with sparks:
Walk in the light of your fire and in the sparks you have kindled—
This you shall have from My hand:
You shall lie down in torment.”
Isaiah 50:10-11

1. A challenge was issued to:

a) All who fear the LORD.

b) To all who would obey the word of the Messiah-Servant.

c) To all who walk in darkness because they have no light.

2. The challenge was to:

a) Be impacted by the Example of the Messiah.

b) To deepen trust in the LORD as the Messiah did.

c) To truly trust the LORD would be to fully rely on Him.

3. A pathetic picture drawn.

a) Of people who seek to overcome darkness.

b) They encircle themselves around the fire they hope to build.

c) But their efforts failed miserably.

d) They could only produce sparks but not generate a fire.

e) If they continue with these vain and foolish attempts:

i) They will be in torment.

ii) They will remain cold and be in the dark.

iii) They will be fearful because of darkness that encircles.

f) God has given the Messiah to be a great light to all who sit
in the region of darkness and death (Matthew 4:15-16).

g) Those who reject the light given would lie in the torment of darkness.
