"A song of my Beloved regarding His vineyard"

Text: Isaiah 5:1

A LAMENT SONG

Isaiah was also skilled as a song writer. Many songs may be found in the book of Isaiah. This may be called “A lament song”.

“Now let me sing to my Well-beloved
A song of my Beloved regarding His vineyard:
My Well-beloved has a vineyard
On a very fruitful hill.
He dug it up and cleared out its stones,
And planted it with the choicest vine.
He built a tower in its midst,
And also made a winepress in it;
So He expected it to bring forth good grapes,
But it brought forth wild grapes.”
Isaiah 5:1-2

1. A song of love.

a) The LORD was “Well-beloved” to the prophet Isaiah.

b) A love for God.

i) It is natural.

ii) It is wholesome.

iii) It is inspiring.

2. The Vineyard of the LORD.

a) The Vineyard of the LORD was Israel.

b) It was well-situated on a fruitful hill.

i) Where it is situated will affect the Vineyard.

ii) God chose the best of places.

3. Preparation of the Vineyard.

a) Much work had to be done.

i) The land had to be well dug.

ii) The stones in the ground had to be removed.

b) The choice of the seed.

i) The choicest of vines was made.

ii) God selected very high-quality seeds.

c) Happy anticipation:

i) That the Vine would produce the best of grapes.

ii) A watchtower was erected to guard the vineyard.

iii) A wine-press was made close to the vineyard so that the quality
of the grapes would be preserved for the making of the wine.

d) Sad reality:

i) The vineyard failed to produce good grapes.

ii) The expectations of the Owner were not met.

iii) Wild grapes came forth instead of good ones.

iv) This was lamentable indeed!
