"I will lift My hand in an oath"

Text: Isaiah 49:22

A SOLEMN OATH FROM GOD

The LORD had spoken candidly to Israel. He made many promises to His people. He assured them that what He had promised would be fulfilled. This was done when He made a solemn oath!

“Thus says the Lord GOD:
‘Behold, I will lift My hand in an oath to the nations,
And set up My standard for the peoples;
They shall bring your sons in their arms,
And your daughters shall be carried on their shoulders;
Kings shall be your foster fathers,
And their queens your nursing mothers;
They shall bow down to you with their faces to the earth,
And lick up the dust of your feet.
Then you will know that I am the LORD,
For they shall not be ashamed who wait for Me.'”
Isaiah 49:22-23

1. Great assurance.

a) This may be found in the words of promise given by the LORD (Isaiah 49).

b) This assurance was confirmed when God spoke of lifting His hand in making an oath.

2. Things the LORD promised.

a) He would set up a standard for His people.

i) The standard is like a royal flag from the LORD.

ii) He would rally people to see this standard.

b) People would carry the children in their arms.

c) The little girls would be carried on strong shoulders.

d) Kings would become foster fathers.

e) Queens would become nursing mothers.

f) They would give humble obeisance.

3. Full knowledge and faith in the LORD:

a) When all these things are fulfilled.

b) Then would Israel know that the LORD is indeed God!

c) Those who wait on Him would never be ashamed.
