"Listen to Me, O Jacob"
Text: Isaiah 48:12
BASIC LESSONS ABOUT GOD
The LORD had to cause Israel to learn basic lessons of faith. These lessons should have been learned a long time ago. The LORD patiently taught His people.
“Listen to Me, O Jacob,
And Israel, My called:
I am He, I am the First,
I am also the Last.
Indeed My hand has laid the foundation of the earth,
And My right hand has stretched out the heavens;
When I call to them,
They stand up together.”
Isaiah 48:12-13
1. Addressing the nation.
a) There was a time when Israel was erring and sinful Jacob.
b) Then the LORD called him “Israel” (Genesis 32).
2. The Person of the LORD.
a) He was the One who called Israel.
b) The LORD
i) He is the First.
ii) He is the Last.
c) There is no one else who can make such a statement!
3. The LORD as the Creator.
a) He laid the foundations of the earth.
b) He is the One who stretched out the heavens.
c) He is the One who called out to all the things He created.
d) When God called them:
i) They stood up to listen attentively.
ii) They recognised the LORD as the Creator.
iii) They acknowledge Him and His authority.
e) Sadly, Israel had not listened to the LORD much!
