"I have made you hear new things"

Text: Isaiah 48:6

THE PROFOUND WISDOM OF GOD

The LORD showed immense and deep wisdom in His dealings with idolatrous Israel of old. The rebellious nation had proven to be devious and wicked.

“Even from the beginning I have declared it to you;
Before it came to pass I proclaimed it to you,
Lest you should say, ‘My idol has done them,
And my carved image and my molded image
Have commanded them.’
‘You have heard;
See all this.
And will you not declare it?
I have made you hear new things from this time,
Even hidden things, and you did not know them.'”
Isaiah 48:5-6

1. God’s awareness concerning Israel’s devious inclinations.

a) God knew what idolatrous Israel would do.

b) The claims of the idolaters:

i) That their idols had vast knowledge.

ii) That they also had great power.

iii) They could also prophesy.

iv) Their prophecies would be fulfilled too.

c) All these claims were false!

2. God’s deep wisdom displayed.

a) True prophecies were proclaimed.

b) Especially with reference to:

i) The Medo-Persian Empire (Isaiah 45)

ii) The Fall of the Babylonians (Isaiah 47)

c) No one would be able to make such prophecies.

3. God’s appeal to Israel:

a) To hear.

b) To see.

b) To know that only the LORD of hosts could have done this!

c) The challenge to Israel:

i) To return to God.

ii) To be reconciled to Him.

iii) To declare all that they had learned from the LORD.
