Day 175

"He brings down those who dwell on high"

Text: Isaiah 26:5

THE HIGH AND MIGHTY

The Assyrians and the Babylonians may be cited as nations that “dwelt on high”. But they were not the only ones. All nations tend to lift themselves up arrogantly. They put down the poor and the needy along the way.

“For He brings down those who dwell on high,
The lofty city;
He lays it low,
He lays it low to the ground,
He brings it down to the dust.
The foot shall tread it down—
The feet of the poor
And the steps of the needy.”
Isaiah 26:5-6

1. What the mighty nations do.

a) They built lofty cities.

b) The rulers built tall buildings and dwell on high literally.

c) At the expense of the poor and needy.

2. What God would do to the arrogant nations.

a) He will bring the leaders down.

b) He will destroy their mighty cities.

c) He will cause them to be defeated.

d) These mighty cities would be razed to the ground.

3. How God would go about doing this.

a) He will cause the feet of the poor to tread down these mighty rulers.

b) The despised needy people would rise up and topple the mighty rulers.

c) The poor and needy would have their day in the sun against their oppressors.

d) This pattern has been observed time and again in human history.

e) Sadly, mighty nations and rulers do not seem to have learned much from history.
