"The main point..."

Text: Hebrews 8:1

A LONG AND CIRCUITOUS ROUTE

The author of Hebrews was fully aware of the fact that he had taken a long and almost circuitous route to prove the following thoughts:-

1. With reference to the Levitical system

a) The Levitical system was not a perfect system.
b) It was only temporary.
c) It had severe limitations.

2. With reference to the order of Melchizedek

a) This was of Divine origin.
b) This was a Perfect system.
c) Jesus is the High Priest in the order of Melchizedek.

AN ATTEMPT TO SUMMARISE

The author made an attempt to summarise his arguments in the following text.

“Now this is the main point of the things we are saying:
We have such a High Priest, who is seated at the right hand of
the throne of the Majesty in the heavens, a Minister of the
sanctuary and of the true tabernacle which the Lord erected,
and not man.”
Hebrews 8:1-2

3. We have such a High Priest

a) He is seated at the right hand of the throne of Majesty.
i) Symbolising His position.
ii) Symbolising His power.
b) A Minister of the sanctuary and true tabernacle which the Lord erected
i) There is another and greater Sanctuary than the earthly tabernacle.
ii) The Lord God Himself erected this Tabernacle (and not man).
