"Perfected forever..."

Text: Hebrews 7:28

THE APPOINTMENTS OF GOD

Both the Levitical priesthood and the order of Melchizedek came from God! He was the One who made these appointments. This was noted in the following text.

“For the law appoints as high priests men who have weaknesses,
but the word of the oath, which came after the law,
appoints the Son who has been perfected forever.”
Hebrews 7:28

1. The law appoints

a) This law came from God Himself.
b) His agent was Moses.

2. Appointment of high priests

a) High priests (Levitical order) were appointed according to the law.
b) Every high priest had his own weaknesses.
c) Thus none of them may be described as “perfect”.

3. The word of the oath

a) This too was a word from God.
b) However it was styled “the word of the oath” to distinguish it from the Mosaic Law.
c) This oath was given through the writings of David (Cf. Psalm 110:4)
i) This was prophetic.
ii) This was a valid word from the Lord.
iii) It had equal authority and power.

4. Appoints the Son

a) This word of the oath identifies God’s unique Son as the high priest after the order of Melchizedek.
b) He is most wonderfully qualified to fulfil His role as High priest because He “has been perfected forever”.
