"Show the same diligence to the full assurance of hope..."
Text: Hebrews 6:11
A STIRRING WORD OF CHALLENGE
There is no need for any genuine believer to fear that he would lose his salvation in Christ Jesus! His true faith in Christ would always manifest itself in good and noble ways. To those who merely profess faith in Christ, this stirring word of challenge ought to be taken to heart seriously.
“And we desire that each one of you show the same diligence
to the full assurance of hope until the end.”
Hebrews 6:11
1. And we desire that each one of you show the same diligence
a) It is good and wholesome to speak of having a strong and pure desire.
b) This particular desire is for every believer to manifest true salvation through works.
2. The same diligence
a) Diligence was evidenced in the lives of the apostles of Christ.
b) Diligence was also obviously evidenced in the lives of leading Christians.
c) This same diligence was observable in mature believers (even if they do not play major roles of leadership).
d) Diligence in serving the Lord should be the hallmark of every genuine believer.
3. To the full assurance of hope until the end
a) The Christian faith may also be spoken of as “Hope”.
b) There are aspects of the faith that are in the future. There are many features. Only a few may be mentioned in this reading.
i) There is the hope of heaven.
ii) There is hope of our eternal reward in Christ.
iii) There is the hope that we would reign with Christ.
c) These aspects of faith must be held faithfully and diligently to the very end.
These stirring words of challenge apply not only to the original readers of the Epistle to the Hebrews! These words apply to us today! Let us practise diligence in life!
