"Do not cast away your confidence..."

Text: Hebrews 10:35

BRAVE DEEDS

The author of Hebrews honoured his readers, praising them for their brave deeds. They had courageously stood by him. They had shown compassion. They made financial sacrifices to help him when he was imprisoned!

THE ISSUE OF CONFIDENCE

Somewhere along the way, there seemed to have been a loss of confidence in faith. The following words were written to lift up the hearts, in the hope of regaining confidence.

“Therefore do not cast away your confidence,
which has great reward.”
Hebrews 10:35

1. Therefore

a) A strong plea was made to regain confidence.
b) Based on possessing genuine faith in the Lord.
c) Based on expressions of heroic faith in the past there was every reason to hold fast in faith.

2. Do not cast away your confidence

a) Confidence is not just simply a matter of losing it.
b) Confidence lost could well be a problem of “casting it away”.
c) No one needs to lose confidence except the person who has cast it away.
d) There is still hope of regaining confidence.
e) The opportunity to find confidence again lies in responding to these challenging words of admonition.

3. Which has great reward

a) The challenge lies in being able to look beyond the immediate moment.
b) There may be tough challenges afoot, but there is “great reward” ahead.
c) Confidence in the Lord through an unfaltering faith would be greatly rewarded by the Lord.
