“This Man… sat down at the right hand of God” Hebrews 10:12

A VITAL POINT OF COMPARISON

The following comparison between what Christ could do and what the old priestly system could not achieve needed to be stated. The following text deserves close study.

“But this Man, after He had offered one sacrifice for sins forever,
sat down at the right hand of God.”
Hebrews 10:12

1. But this Man

a) This was a deliberate comparison.
b) This Man… (singular) was compared to the many priests of the old system.

2. He had offered one sacrifice

a) In the old system many priests had to offered sacrifices repeatedly.
b) Jesus had to offer only one sacrifice- His own Body.

3. Sacrifice for sins forever

a) The old system could never ever remove sins.
b) Christ could remove sins forever.

4. Sat down

a) The priests could not sit down for their work was never finished.
b) Christ’s one work of sacrifice of Himself was all that was needed.
c) Only He could be described as having “sat down”.

5. At the right hand of God

a) No Aaronic high priest could ever be described as being “at the right hand of God”.
b) This was a symbolic phrase to describe the following things:-
i) Closeness to God
ii) Position of authority and power
